Bray Youth Choir

Bray Youth Choir is a full SATB choir. We were founded in 2004 to provide young people in the Bray, South Dublin and North Wicklow areas the opportunity to engage in amateur choral singing and to derive enjoyment, musically and socially, from working with their peers. We perform in concert, competition and in charity fundraising events in Ireland and abroad. Our repertoire includes classical works, classical pieces, spirituals, popular songs and carols. Our members are from their teens to their twenties.

Location: Bray, County Wicklow
Musical Director: Frank Kelly

The inaugural meeting of an exciting new chamber choir venture was held on Sun 8th Jan in the Spike Bar of Bray Golf Club. This was initiated in response to a perceived desire among members of other choirs for a new singing challenge and a rehearsal format that would not require the usual commitment of a night per week.

Kevin O’Sullivan, BMusEd, Music Director Kilternan Parish Church was approached & agreed to be Musical Director.

Seventeen people attended this first meeting & all contributed to a lively discussion.  The idea of a chamber choir was met with huge enthusiasm & it was decided to name the choir Córde – a simple, one word, Irish, non-geographical name derived from the Irish ‘cór’ & ‘cáirde’.

Membership has since grown to twenty-four.

Córde’s objective / Mission Statement is: ‘To sing a wide range of music including sacred, secular, traditional, ancient and contemporary works, largely unaccompanied & to the highest standard attainable by an amateur choir’.

Córde operates differently to most other choirs: learning is done independently by members in their own time using audio learning files prepared by Kevin, in advance of coming together for a workshop held every 4 weeks on a Sunday afternoon in the Theatre Lane studios in Greystones.

Workshops began on 12th February 2017 with Córde’s first performance taking place on 21st May 2017 at the AIMS (Association of Irish Musical Societies) festival in New Ross.

Plans for the future include singing at festivals & charity events and giving regular one hour concerts in the Greystones area & elsewhere.  One of our aspirations is to become the ‘choir in residence’ of the new Whale Theatre in Theatre Lane, Greystones.

Córde is currently open for new members with choral music backgrounds - apply to

Voices of Bray Community Choir was founded in 2013. It is an SATB choir which welcomes singers of all abilities on a no-audition basis. Originally envisioned to attract 50-60 members, demand for places was so high that within a year, membership had expanded to over 130 singers. The choir focuses on a repertoire of popular music with a firm emphasis on singing for fun. The choir also aims to foster a community spirit and social interaction among members and to promote well-being through the enjoyment of singing.

Rehearsals take place on a weekly basis with concerts taking place several times each year. In 2017, the choir made its first overseas trip, travelling to Wales to take part in the North Wales Choral Festival. Apart from the entertainment factor, concert performances are undertaken as fundraising events. To the end of 2017, the choir had raised almost €40,000 for various charities.
