 Maynooth University Chamber Choir

Maynooth University Chamber Choir was founded in 1986, specialising primarily in the performance of sacred repertoire of the Christian canon from the renaissance to the present day. The choir has an established tradition of commissioning and promoting new music and regularly presents premières of works by Irish composers. The past three decades have brought many exciting successes on national and international platforms through the group’s involvement in choral festivals and competitions, television, radio, and recording projects.

In July 2015, the choir became the first Irish choir to lift the coveted Pavarotti Trophy as ‘Choir of the World’ at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. In March 2016, in celebration of their victory at Llangollen, they undertook a trans-world tour, performing in Ireland, New York, Boston, Shanghai, Changzhou, Guangzhou, Arizona, and Denver. Their recently-released CD recording ‘Lorica’ features newly-commissioned works by Irish composers and other choral favourites.

In 2017, the choir competed in the Cork International Choral Festival, winning first place in both the mixed voice and church music categories.  They competed on March 12th 2018 in The Feis Ceoil, and were awarded first place in Church Music Competition, Mixed Voice and received first place in the Oliver O Brien Award, the prize given to the best overall choir.
