Co. Wexford Children’s Choir Singfest

The Co. Wexford Children’s Choir Singfest is a unique choral programme, which celebrates the participation of young people in high quality choral music experiences. The Singfest provides over 200 children from Co. Wexford primary schools with the opportunity to experience an enjoyable range of age appropriate repertoire, in an inclusive and non-competitive environment. The classroom choirs then join forces towards the end of the programme to perform together in a massed choral setting. Each year, the Singfest features a guest and assistant artistic director. The 2009 / 2010 Singfest was themed as Acrobatic Operatics and took place at Wexford Opera House during April.

Rowe Street Choir is a long established choir attached to Rowe St Church. A small mixed choir, it provides music for church liturgies throughout the year, highlights being the liturgies of Easter and Christmas, and the yearly Festival Mass. After a number of entries into choir competitions in the 1990s, subsequent wins including the Open Competition at Cork Choral Festival, the choir recently returned to the competition circuit under its current Musical Director, Helen Gaynor. A 2010 entry into the Sacred Music competition of the Arklow Music Festival won them the Morgan Kinsella Perpetual Cup. “Fine choir, excellent balance and well produced vocality – such a rounded and blended choral sound. . . Singing of a very high standard” – extract from the comments of John Fitzpatrick, adjudicator at Arklow. The choir has an extensive repertoire, singing music from the Middle Ages through to contemporary, and prides itself on achieving a good standard of choral singing, both accompanied and unaccompanied.
