Conductor In Training Position
The Irish Youth Choir and National Chamber Choir of Ireland are delighted to announce that, following recent auditions, they have appointed Clare O'Brien to the position of Conductor In-Training for 2009.
Clare O Brien is an honours graduate of the Cork School of Music BMus degree programme. She holds a general diploma in Choral Conducting from the Kodály Institute, Kecskémet Hungary where she is currently studying for her Masters in Music Education. She has participated in many AOIC conducting courses and has previously been a member of the Irish Youth Choir as well as the Irish Youth Orchestra.
The Irish Youth Choir and National Chamber Choir came together in a joint initiative to offer one scholarship place to a Conductor In-Training for 2009.
This competitive mentoring opportunity is open to musicians in the early stages of their conducting career who have had some experience of conducting choirs. Candidates should be aged 30 years or under on 1st July 2009.
Position with Irish Youth Choir:
The successful applicant will be expected to sing with the Irish Youth Choir during the rehearsal week and concerts from 27th June – 4th July 2009. The Conductor In-Training will work with IYC's Artistic Director, Greg Beardsell, and will have an opportunity to conduct the Irish Youth Choir in rehearsal and performance. Full board will be provided for the duration of the residential rehearsal course in Limerick and concerts in Kilkenny and Dublin.
Position with National Chamber Choir:
The successful applicant will work with the NCC's Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Paul Hillier in an apprenticeship role throughout the months of July and November 2009 and March 2010. He/she will have the opportunity to shadow the Artistic Director during rehearsals and performances, undertake preparation rehearsals with the choir and to guest conduct at a future National Chamber Choir performance.
