IYC seeks Conductor in Training 2010
The Irish Youth Choir and National Chamber Choir of Ireland seek applications for the position of Conductor In-Training for 2010.
This competitive mentoring opportunity is open to musicians in the early stages of their conducting career who have had some experience of conducting choirs. Candidates should be aged 35 years or under on 4th July 2010.
Position with Irish Youth Choir:
The successful applicant will be expected to sing with the Irish Youth Choir during the rehearsal week and concerts from 26th June – 4th July 2010. The Conductor In-Training will work with IYC's Artistic Director, Greg Beardsell and tutor staff, and will have an opportunity to conduct the Irish Youth Choir in rehearsal. Full board will be provided for the duration of the residential rehearsal course in Limerick and concerts in Bantry, Wexford and Dublin.
Position with National Chamber Choir:
The successful applicant will work with the NCC's Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Paul Hillier in an apprenticeship role. He/she will have the opportunity to shadow the Artistic Director during rehearsals and performances, undertake preparation rehearsals with the choir and to guest conduct at a future National Chamber Choir performance.
Auditions for the position of conductor in training will take place on Monday 26th April in Dublin City University.
Shortlisted applicants will be expected to conduct a choir made up of members of the Irish Youth Choir and the National Chamber Choir.
Conductors interested in applying for this position should write a letter of application, stating why they feel they should be offered the above position, and what the experience would mean to their career, along with a cv of their conducting history to date, including any training received.
Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 16th April 2010.
