"...the choral sound was always glorious"
Michael Dervan, The Irish Times, 6 July 2010
Made up of Ireland's finest young singers aged from 18 to 28, the Irish Youth Choir meets annually for a main intensive rehearsal course in the summer under the expert tuition of the Artistic Director, Greg Beardsell, and a team of tutors and vocal coaches. The week culminates in a number of performances by the choir.
This year, the Irish Youth Choir and National Youth Orchestra of Ireland joined forces for the first time in a powerful and exciting collaboration to rehearse and perform concerts in West Cork, Wexford Opera House and the National Concert Hall. The programme for 2010 included Brahms' Requiem and Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard with Artistic Director Greg Beardsell and Irish soloists Cara O'Sullivan and Owen Gilhooly.
The Irish Youth Choir offers mentoring opportunities to conductors in the early stages of their career by offering one position of Conductor in Training annually. This year's Conductor in Training has been offered to Sinead Dempsey following auditions with Greg Beardsell, Paul Hillier and a choir made up of members of the Irish Youth Choir and National Chamber Choir.
