Castlecomer Male Voice Choir

Castlecomer Male Voice Choir was formed in 1985 and grew out of the coal mining tradition in the Castlecomer area. The choir aims to give service to the community through participating in and hosting fund raising concerts for local charities. The choir’s repertoire includes sacred, classical, traditional and popular pieces. The choir meets every Monday night in Castlecomer Community School. New members are welcome. Over the years the choir has performed in various locations at home and abroad. In recent years has travelled to Jersey, Wales, Vienna and Prague. In 2008 the choir released a CD containing the most popular and loved songs in their repertoire, dedicated to the memory of its deceased members.

The Kilkenny Choir

The Kilkenny Choir is a mixed voice choir of 70 members founded and conducted by Philip Edmondson, director of Kilkenny School of Music. The choir prides itself on the quality and diversity of the music it performs with a repertoire which includes works by Mozart, Bach, Carissimi, Cherubini, Handel,  Charpentier, Poulenc, Monteverdi and many more. We perform two concerts each year, at Christmas in St John’s Church, Kilkenny and in late Spring with a professional orchestra and soloists, in St. Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny.  The choir has performed in France, Italy and Belgium and will travel to Dubrovnik in May 2012.

Rehearsals are held each Thursday evening from 8 to 10pm from September to April in the Presentation NS hall, Parnell Street, Kilkenny.  The choir welcomes new members in September and January. The ability to read music is an advantage but not necessary.  A willingness to work hard and the ability to sing in tune are the essential factors.
