Spring and Winter Choral Conducting Courses
Winter Conducting Courses
Planning us underway for the next round of winter conducting courses. Under the direction of Bernie Sherlock [Artistic Director, AOIC Educational Programmes], this course will provide practical, hands-on training to conductors, teachers, musicians, students and those interested in becoming involved in conducting. The course consists of 20 hours of tuition, allowing students to put into practice what they have learned at each session. The participants form the choir, while receiving ample opportunity to conduct and observe. Choir singer and Observer positions are available on all courses.
DATES & VENUE
Dates of our Winter Conducting Course will be posted shortly - proposed start date is Saturday 2 October. It is hoped to offer courses in Cork and Limerick in the coming months.
TUITION
Tuition will be offered at 2 levels:
Level 1 – Basic / Intermediate
For those with some musical background or qualification, who may have conducting experience. This level develops the fundamentals of conducting technique and vocal training, with attention to gestures, style, interpretation, rehearsal technique and score analysis.
Level 2 – Intermediate / Advanced (Bernie Sherlock)
For conductors with well-developed musicianship skills, who have experience of working with choirs and have had previous tuition in conducting. This level further strengthens conducting technique and vocal training, using more challenging music and score analysis, with increased attention to style, interpretation and rehearsal technique.

TUTORS in Spring course 2010
Bernie Sherlock
Bernie Sherlock is Conductor of multi-award-winning New Dublin Voices; Culwick Choral Society since 2007; Trinity College Choral Society 1999-2008 and Choral Director at the DIT Conservatory 1995-2005; lectures in the DIT Conservatory & Trinity College; adjudicates regularly.
Mark Armstrong
Mark Armstrong has played with and conducted all of Ireland’s top ensembles, choirs and bands, including the National Chamber Choir, RTÉ Chamber Choir, RTÉ Philharmonic Choir, RTÉ Cór na n-Óg and Opera Theatre Company. Mark is currently Musical Director of Tallaght Choral Society and the Army No.1 Band.
